India Orders IndiGo to End Turkish Airlines Lease Amid Diplomatic Tensions

In a significant move reflecting escalating diplomatic tensions, the Indian government has directed IndiGo Airlines to terminate its wet lease agreement with Turkish Airlines within three months. This decision follows Turkey’s vocal support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, a recent military operation conducted by India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced a final, non-extendable extension, allowing IndiGo to operate the two Boeing 777 aircraft leased from Turkish Airlines until August 31, 2025. This measure aims to prevent immediate disruption to international routes, particularly those connecting Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul.

The move comes amid broader actions by the Indian government to reassess ties with Turkish entities. Earlier this month, the security clearance for Turkish ground handling firm Celebi Aviation was revoked, affecting operations at several major Indian airports.
