US Supreme Court allows Trump to revoke legal status of over 5 lakh migrants

On May 30, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court authorized the Trump administration to revoke temporary legal protections for over 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
These individuals had been granted humanitarian parole under President Biden, allowing them to live and work legally in the U.S. The Court’s unsigned emergency order lifted a lower court’s injunction that had blocked the mass termination of these protections.
Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor dissented, warning of severe consequences for the affected migrants. The administration argues that revoking parole status will facilitate expedited deportations.
Critics contend that this move disrupts lives and could lead to significant economic and social impacts. The case now proceeds to the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
