What is Iran’s next move? World Awaits Response to U.S. Bombing: Live Updates

23/06/2025

Global tensions reached a boiling point on Monday as the world anxiously awaited Iran’s response to U.S. and Israeli military strikes that targeted its nuclear infrastructure and key security sites. With concerns mounting over a potential escalation into a broader regional war, the Middle East stands at a critical juncture.

The most recent strikes—initiated by the U.S. and followed by Israeli missile attacks—hit three major Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz confirmed that their targets also included Evin Prison and the internal security headquarters of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, both considered regime strongholds. Iranian state media also reported damage to the Fordow site, although independent verification remains pending.

Sirens echoed throughout Israel amid fears of retaliatory missile strikes from Iran. Meanwhile, the United States is keeping its 40,000 troops in the region on high alert, two days after President Donald Trump authorized the bombing campaign. In Washington D.C. and New York, protesters condemned further military involvement, urging a diplomatic resolution.

World leaders from the UK, France, and Germany have called for restraint and dialogue. “Now is the time for diplomacy, not destruction,” one European diplomat said. However, inside Iran, the mood is defiant. Senior Iranian official Ebrahim Zolfaqari delivered a stern warning: “Mr. Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it.”

Domestically, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a bulletin highlighting a “heightened threat environment,” while the State Department warned U.S. citizens abroad to remain vigilant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) convened an emergency meeting on Monday. Director-General Rafael Grossi said that, based on preliminary analysis, the Fordow enrichment facility may have suffered “very significant damage” due to the sensitive nature of centrifuges and the magnitude of the explosion. However, he stressed that the IAEA has not yet been allowed access to verify the situation on the ground.

As the world watches closely, the next steps by Tehran could determine whether this turns into a prolonged conflict or a brief but intense standoff. With both sides hardening their rhetoric, the risk of further escalation appears dangerously high—unless diplomatic channels can reopen in time.
