Andhra Unveils Tallest Ambedkar Statue for Social Justice
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy unveiled a 125-foot tall statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Vijayawada.
The statue, standing on an 81-foot pedestal at Smriti Vanam, makes it the world’s tallest Dr. Ambedkar structure. The chief minister spoke about the statue reflecting the spirit of Dalits and marginalized communities, emphasizing the ongoing struggle against untouchability.
Reddy highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s role in promoting education among oppressed classes and the state’s efforts to provide quality higher education for empowerment.
He mentioned that his government has allocated a significant percentage of nominated posts to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and minorities.
The project, costing ₹400 crore, spans 18.18 acres and was completed in a record time of 11 months. It includes an experience center, a museum depicting Ambedkar’s life, mural artwork, and a convention center with a seating capacity of 2,000 members. The initiative aims to honor Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and promote social justice and equality.
